ZS*6 Micro telecontrol
system
In large water treatment or
industrial plants, railway depots and in building technologies it
is often necessary to transmit only a few messages and commands by
saving wires using the existing cable networks. In these cable
networks power lines often run in parallel or control lines at
different voltage levels in the same cable. The basis variant of
the bi-directional serial transmission system ZS*6 is developed to
transmit 8 messages or commands and consists of 2 ZS ***8M master
modules with 8 digital s/outputs each. Using the expansion
module ZS ***8E/A and installing a ribbon cable leads to the
expansion of the system up to *6 messages. Additionally it is also
possible to transmit 4 measured values each in the ranges of 0… *0
V and 2 … *0 mA with the analogue or output module either in
one or both directions. Moreover the degree of the configuration of
the system is to be set by DIP-switches. Each module of the ZS*6
has a plastic housing and can be mounted on DIN rails. Red LEDs on
the front panel indicate the status of the messages and a green LED
monitors the *-wire traffic. In the case of a wire break or short
circuit this display goes out and the permanently pulled on error
signaling relay drops off. To control lamps, solenoid valves as
well as contactors directly the outputs are provided with 8 short
circuit proof PNP transistors with free-wheeling diodes.
In order to achieve a high degree
of transmission reliability, each data message is secured using a
*2 bit CRC code in accordance with ANSI X3.*6 protocol. When a
transmission disturbance occurs, the outputs will be restored to
their intrinsically safe state, which can be defined using the DIP
switch accessible on the underside. The digital circuits are
electrically isolated from the supply voltage and the two-wire
circuit. By this the formation of possible leakage current loops is
prevented. The connections for the supply voltage, s and
two-wire are protected against polarity reversal.
When using the ZS*6 no special
signal cables are needed. In the event of severe interference
impact on the two-wire line the connection with a resistor in
parallel to the two-wire can achieve an effective rejection. For
this each delivery also includes resistors. The data transmission
rate can be set by means of a DIP switch. To transmit a signal
securely it has to be kept switched on for the duration of the
transmission cycle.
