Mill scale

What is Mill scale?

Mill scale is formed on the outer surfaces of plates, sheets or profiles when they are being produced by rolling red hot iron or steel billets in rolling or steel mills. Mill scale is composed of iron oxides mostly ferric and is bluish black in color. It is usually less than a millimeter thick and initially adheres to the steel surface and protects it from atmospheric corrosion provided no break occurs in this coating. Because it is electro-chemically to steel, any break in the mill scale coating will cause accelerated corrosion of steel exposed at the break. Mill scale is thus a boon for a while until its coating breaks due to handling of the steel product or due to any other mechanical cause.

PRODUCT DOCUMENTATION

One set of the following documents consisting of three originals and three non-negotiable copies will be furnished by the Seller:

-Commercial invoice

-Ocean Bill of Lading marked “Freight Prepaid” and clean on board issued to the order of …….. And consigned to ……..

-Certification of Weight and Quality issued by SGS

-Certificate of Origin issued by or endorsed by Chamber of Commerce of the Country or the Countries of Origin

BASIS OF DELIVERY

The date of the bill of lading shall be considered the date of lifting and delivery.

WEIGHT AND QUALITY

The Seller guarantees to his account the shipment of (Red Iron Oxide A*2) shall be provided with an inspection of weight and quality at the time of loading and such certificates shall be provided by SGS or similar authority at Seller’s expense which shall be deemed to be final and binding on both Parties. Seller instructs said authority to carry out the inspections.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

PROCEDURES: As agreed between seller and buyer.

LOADING: All costs at the port of loading for the account of the seller.

DISCHARGE: All costs at the port of discharging for the account of the buyer.

INSURANCE: Provided by buyer In accordance with ICC rules and the terms and conditions of this Agreement, insurance is for the seller's account and his sole responsibility.
