Ascorbyl palmitate CAS: *******6  is an ester formed from ascorbic acid and palmitic acid creating a fat-soluble form of vitamin C. In addition to its use as a source of vitamin C, it is also used as an antioxidant food additive (E number E**4).
  L-Ascorbyl palmitate CAS:*******6 is used along with other fatty acid ascorbates such as L-ascorbyl oleate and L-ascorbyl linoleate to protect cells and membranes from oxidative damage. Fatty acid ascorbate molecules have increased solubility in non-polar (lipophilic) environments.
  Ascorbyl palmitate CAS:*******6 is a synthetic lipophilic ascorbic acid derivative. L-Ascorbyl *-palmitate is an effective preservative in foods and an effective dietary antitumor promoter in mice. Studies indicate that dietary L-Ascorbyl *-palmitate is a source of tissue vitamin C in animals. Besides, dietary L-Ascorbyl *-palmitate possesses weak antiscorbutic activity in guinea pigs and enhances vitamin C nutriture in humans. 
  In a study, daily mean weight loss during repletion in control animals receiving placebo is significantly greater than that for L-Ascorbyl *-palmitate animals for days **0 of repletion. Daily mean weight loss for L-Ascorbyl *-palmitate animals is significantly greater than that for L-ascorbic acid (AA) animals on days 5 and 6 of repletion. By comparing areas of the weight-time curve during repletion, L-Ascorbyl *-palmitate appeares to be about *0% as effective as L-ascorbic acid (AA) in reversing scurvy.
