Freon-free Converter Slag Maker (FFCSM) – the Substitute of Fluorspar

As we know, fluorspar is the main fluxing agent for converter slag. The main ingredients of fluorspar is CaF2, which can reduce the melting point of CaO and 2CaO.SiO2 quickly and can improve the liquidity of slag. However, in use process, fluorspar will erode the lining, lower the converter’s life. Also, use fluorspar will produce a lot of F2, which will pollute the air.

Through the research and experiment, we found Al2O3 and Fe2O3 has the same function as fluorspar.

Freon-free Converter Slag Maker (FFCSM), which contains Al2O3, Fe2O3 and tombarthite, is the substitute of fluorspar and can replace fluorspar totally.

Now, many steel companies in China, such as WISCO, Baosteel, Shougang, TISCO, Ansteel, Tangsteel, SGIS, are using FFCSM to replace fluorspar, which reduced the environment pollution and also improved the service life of the linings.
