Alumina is a versatile material in ceramics family that contains various degrees of purity. It provides with a good combination of both electrical and mechanical properties and this is the most important oxide ceramics for widely varying applications. Depending on the alumina purity, particular the purity ranging from *5% to >*9.7%, these aluminum oxide ceramics have variety of properties:

It has a good strength and stiffness, very high hardness and resistance to wear. In addition it can be readily joined to metals or other ceramics using specially developed metalizing and brazing techniques.
