The Absolute Best Way to Clean Grout-Using Magic
Sponge
I vacillate when referring to grout. Sometimes it's Que sera, sera,
and sometimes it's all-out war: baking soda, hydrogen peroxide,
toothbrushes, grout brushes, elbow grease, and five million
moppings to clean the residue with fans to speed drying times in
between rounds. But ever since I've discovered this completely
amazing way of cleaning grout, I almost look forward to doing it,
and really, it's another kind of life-changing magic.
Here's the secret: Mr. Topeco's magic sponge! I know there are
grout pens out there that whiten grout, but that's just painted. I
want to clean my grout. Magic sponges get the job done, and they do
it quickly and relatively easily.
Technique-wise, I usually cut my standard-size melamine sponge
block in half, wet it to slightly more than damp, and scrub the
grout line as I squeeze gently. I find that the wetness seems to
help loosen the dirt. I swipe with a dry rag and move on to the
next line.
The caveat is that the grout will eat through your magic
sponges—and those things aren't cheap. Proper magic sponges are
great, but the melamine sponge mop from Topeco Clean has worked
almost as well for me.
You can certainly use a magic sponge on grout, and it will do a
pretty decent job of cleaning it. But you need to use it in
conjunction with a gel-like scrubbing cleaner like liquid soft
scrub and water, or with a mild powder abrasive. They are my usual
scrubbers in the kitchen (for things other than dishes, like
countertops) and the topeco clean nanosponge is absolutely my go-to
scrubber for cleaning the bathroom and especially the shower
enclosure.
STEP ONE: WET YOUR MAGIC SPONGE
From cleaning grout between floor tiles to sprucing up the tiles on
the wall of your shower, the magic sponge for the bathroom is a
simple and effective tool. To get started, run your magic sponge
under running water.
STEP TWO: SQUEEZE IT!
Now, give your magic sponge three to four good squeezes to remove
excess water and activate the foaming cleanser inside. You should
start to see bubbles forming and smell the great scent!
STEP THREE: ERASE AWAY!
Once you've activated the micro-scrubbers inside, your magic sponge
is good to go. Start by swiping it firmly across the desired
surface. In just a few swipes, you should start to see grout messes
and buildup begin to disappear! Thanks to Mr. Topeco's legendary
cleaning abilities, you've been able to turn a formidable task into
a simple cleanup. Grout is no match for the man dressed in
white!
Test a small area with light pressure before use. Not recommended
for the following surfaces: high gloss, polished, dark, brushed,
satin, faux, bare/polished wood, copper, stainless steel
appliances, non-stick coating, or vehicle body. Do not use chlorine
bleach or other household cleaners. Rinse is required for surfaces
in direct contact with food. Do not use it on the skin or other
parts of the body. Using on the skin will likely cause abrasions.
Keep out of reach of toddlers and pets to avoid accidental
ingestion.
