Description
There are three
types of base oils: mineral, vegetable, and synthetic. Mineral oil
comes from crude oil and the quality depends on the refining
process
- Synthetic oil
is a man-made lubricant that consists of artificially made chemical
compounds. Synthetic oils are typically created from chemically
modified materials such as petroleum components, but the base
material is almost always distilled crude oil
- 2.Mineral oil
is any of various colorless, odorless, light mixtures of higher
alkanes from a mineral source, particularly a distillate of
petroleum, as distinct from usually edible vegetable oils. ... Most
often, mineral oil is a liquid by-product of refining crude oil to
make gasoline and other petroleum products.
- A few
disadvantages of synthetic oil to be aware of include: Probably the
most glaring downside of synthetic oil is the cost. The price of
synthetic oil is around two to four times the price of conventional
oil. Synthetics may be more prone to additives precipitation during
cold storage conditions.
Note that Base oils are used to manufacture products including
lubricating greases, motor oil and metal processing fluids.
Different products require different compositions and properties in
the oil. One of the most important factors is the liquids viscosity
at various temperatures. Whether or not a crude oil is suitable to
be made into a base oil is determined by the concentration of base
oil molecules as well as how easily these can be extracted
