Description

Northern White Cedar (Thuya Occidentalis) is a softwood with remarkable natural properties.

Its wood is stable, finely textured and extremely long lasting.
It offers exceptional natural resistance to insects and decay, resulting in excellent durability.
White cedar does not require any preservatives, special maintenance or treatment to insure a long service life in exterior applications.

In European tests, the white cedar qualified in natural durability class 1 with very durable mention for wood-destroying fungi as per standard EN ****2. No other softwood have previously obtained this rating.

White cedar is a natural alternative to treated wood.
Its pleasant fragrance makes it also prized for interior woodwork and sauna.
The wood of white cedar is typically straight and evengrained, fine-textured and very light.
Compared with Western red cedar (Thuja plicata), the wood of white cedar is lighter in colour, finer in texture and generally has less-prominent growth rings.
White cedar is among the most dimension-stable species of all coniferous species grown in Canada.

The basic density of white cedar (oven-dry weight divided by green volume) is about **9 kg/m3. Its volumetric shrinkage is only 3.8 % from green to air-dry (*2% moisture content) and 6.8% when kiln-dried according to tests.

White cedar make the best posts, fences, landscape timbers, tree stakes, farm piquets, outdoor furniture, siding, decking etc.
