Liquid Gold & Platinum for Decoration
on Glass, Ceramic and Tile

1   General Information
We supply bright precious metal preparations for decoration by lining machine or by hand on ceramic, tile and glass, with precious metal contents of 5%~13%.. Depending on the precious metal content and the thickness of the precious metal application, a gold film of approx. 0,1 µm forms after firing.

2   Firing Range

Type of substrate Firing range
Ceramic 760℃~840℃
Tile 760℃~820℃
Glass 520℃~600℃

3   Properties:
Storage time: As a rule the viscosity increases with long storage. Therefore we recommend to store liquid gold and platinum not longer than 12 months. A cool storage extends the shelf life of the products, though storage at room temperature (approx. 20°C/70°F) is unproblematic. Extreme high temperatures should be avoided.

We supplies liquid gold and platinum with a viscosity ready for use and therefore they can be used without any further thinning. Thinner will make sense when viscosity raises due to evaporation of solvents. Suitable thinner addition is up to individual application requirements

4   Lining Tools
Soft wool brush, paint brush for fine lining, lining machine

5   Requirements on Lining
Liquid gold and platinum after firing have different color and brightness with different gold content. The lines cannot be drawn too thin when lining in order to ensure that a gold film of approx. 0,1 µm forms after firing,

Work in a well ventilated and clean room. Try to reduce dusts. Make sure that the surface of the object to be decorated is clean and dry. Dust, fingerprints and water condensation can affect the decoration, while firing, and therefore have to be removed before application.

6   Drying
Firing after drying completely in well ventilated room. Avoid damages on lined articles during handling process.

7   Firing
During the heating up phase, first of all the organic components burn off. This process is complete at approx. 400°C (750°F). The gold film is formed. A constant slow increase in temperature, enough oxygen by sufficient ventilation is decisive for the quality of the fired precious metal decoration.
The maximum firing temperature and the soak time ( should be 5~10 minutes) have an important influence in the adhesive strength of the fired decoration. As a rough rule of thumb: The higher the firing temperature the better the adhesive strength. So the maximum firing temperature of liquid gold and platinum should be closed to that of decorated substrate.

8   Frequent faults, their causes and ways of avoiding them
Fault

Possible Cause Remedy
liquid products stick to the brush liquid product is too thick. Solvents contained in it are evaporated too much. add thinner and seal the can well.
cracks too fast when lining; the surface of object decorated is not dry and clean enough slow down the speed when lining; keep the surface of object decorated dry and clean
gold color is bluish and through the end of the metal layer too much of thinning added
too thin when lining
control the addition of the thinner;
keep the certain thickness of metal film
bad adhesion firing temperature is not high enough
liquid product is too thin and too thin when lining
increase firing temperature
control its thickness
matt surface the object to be decorated is not clean and dry keep the object to be decorated is clean and dry before lining
● Reduced atmosphere in kiln
● insufficient ventilation
● heat increase is too fast during critical phase between300~400℃
● too many pieces in the kiln
● increase air addition
● improve ventilation
● reduce the heating speed

● reduce the number of pieces
in the kiln
spots and impurity contains impurities
cross contamination
pay attention to the working environmental sanitation; make sure liquid product is not contaminated during lining
the decorated object is not contaminated.
