This is one of the oldest oil seed crop known to have been cultivated ***0 years ago.It has one of the highest content of any seed with a rich nutty flavour.It is a common ingredient in cuisine across the world.Like other nuts and foods it can trigger allergic reaction in some people.
Sesame seeds are small.The size,form and colour vary with the thousand of varieties now known.Typically,the seed are about 3 to 4 millimeters wide and 1 millimetre tick.The seed are ovate,slightly flattened and somewhat thinner at the eyes of the seed(hilum) than at the opposite edge.The weight of the seeds are between *0 and *0 milligrams.The seed coat(testa) may be smoothed or ribbed.
Sesame seed comes in many colour depending on the cultivar harvested.The most traded variety of sesame is off white coloured.Other common colour are buff,tan,gold,brown reddish,gray and black.
