Applications of Ultramarine Blues
Paints in general
Due to its excellent properties, Ultramarine blue pigment has wide
applications in paints.
Plastics
The largest market of technical grade of ultramarine blue for
the following reasons:
- Excellent heat
resistance. Stable at over **0°C
- Excellent light
resistance (8 on the wool scale)
- Unique
shade
- Easily
dispersed

- Non toxic
- Does not bleed
or migrate
- Easily
reprocessed
Inks:
Ultramarine Blue, of fine micron size, with highest tinting
strength, are mostly used in many printing inks.
Soaps & detergents:
Ultramarine Blue of reddish shade having low tinting strength, is
used for colouring soaps. They give whiteness to washed
clothes.
Paper:
Ultramarine Blue has application in the paper manufacturing process
namely the whitening of cellulose pulp and the colouration of the
outside coating on coloured papers.
Rubber:
Ultramarine blue is used for coloring of rubber and as a color
correction of white rubber.
Artists colors:
Ultramarine blue, with low toxicity and high tinting strength, is
widely used in the manufacturing of Artistic Colors.
Copy paper:
Ultramarine blue is used in the production of blue copy of carbon
paper or to better the shade of black carbon paper.
Chalk for billiard cues:
Ultramarine blue has application in manufacturing of billiards
chalk, because of its affinity with quartz.
