PAHs (polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons) test:
What is
PAHs:
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are
hydrocarbon compounds formed by two or more interconnection
aromatic, it’s produced by slow and incomplete combustion of
organic compounds or pyrolysis of organic compounds under
high-temperature. Now there are more than **0 kinds of chemical
formula are founded and among which, more than *0 kinds are
confirmed to be carcinogenic, *8 species are listed as priorities
by the U.S. EPA assessment.
Â
PAHs may
exist in the following materials:
ï¬
charcoal, oil, creosote, tar (natural)
ï¬
drugs, dyes, plastics, rubber, pesticides (human made)
ï¬
lubricant, releasing agent, capacitor electrolyte, mineral oil, tar
(human made)
ï¬
insecticides, fungicides, mosquito coils, smoke, gas condensate
blocking agent (human made)
ï¬
Others
Â
Hazards of
PAHs:
ï¬
strong carcinogen
ï¬
damage the reproductive system
ï¬
easily lead to skin cancer, lung cancer, upper gastrointestinal
cancer, arteriosclerosis, infertility
Regulatory requirements of
PAHs:
EU *6/**9/EEC;
Germany: GS certification, LFGB; the United States: EPA; Chinese:
GB, GB / T, GHZ. The German government mandatory regulation
requires all the PAHs related products have to be tested whether
they contained excessive PAHs before selling to
Germany.
Â
After the
discussion between ALDI Süd and ALDI Nord, Germany sets the limit
amount of PAHs as follows:
Class One:
materials which touch food or goods and toys which may be placed in
the mouth of children under three years old
BaP: not
detected * (
Class Two:
plastic parts which have frequent contact with skin and the contact
time is more than *0 seconds, toys that are not regulated in Class
One
BaP:1 mg/kg,the total amount of *6
items of PAHs: *0 mg/kg
Class Three:
plastic components which have occasional contact with skin and the
contact time is less than *0 seconds or parts that have no contact
with skin
BaP:*0mg/kg,the total amount of *6
items of PAHs:**0 mg/kg
If the test
results is lager than Class One and meet Class Two, then the
products should be tested for the migration test to confirm the
test results according to DIN EN***6 *4 LFBG*0.***1.
