Pyrimethanil

Pyrimethanil is a synthetic compound of the chemical group Anilnopyrimidine that acts as a contact fungicide, giving protective and curative properties. Pyrimethanil can be applied as a seed treatment or as a foliar spray to a number of crops.

 

Pyrimethanil is a synthetic compound of the chemical group Anilnopyrimidine that acts as a contact fungicide, giving protective and curative  properties. Pyrimethanil can be applied as a seed treatment or as a foliar spray to a number of crops. Pyrimethanil acts by inhibiting methionine biosynthesis, thereby preventing protein formation and cell division.  Pyrimethanil prevents diseases caused by a wide spectrum of fungi, including Alternaria spp., Botrytis cinerea, Cercospora spp., Cladosporium spp., Colletotrichum spp., Monilia spp., Mycosphaerella spp., Penicillium spp. and Venturia spp. It is approved for use on apples and strawberries, and can also be used on combining peas and field beans when combined with chlorothalanil.

APPLICATIONS
Biochemistry Inhibitor of methionine biosynthesis leading to inhibition of the secretion of enzymes necessary for infection.  Mode of action Protectant (in Botrytis) and both protective and curative action (in Venturia).  Uses Control of grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) on vines, fruit, vegetables and ornamentals. Control of leaf scab (Venturia inaequalis or V. pirina) on pome fruit.  Phytotoxicity May be phytotoxic in closed systems at ?0% r.h. on certain species.  Formulation types SC.  Selected tradenames: \'Mythos\' (Aventis); \'Scala\' (Aventis).
