Aluminothermic Welding Consumables
Materials consumed in the performance of a weld, shall consist of:
a. Welding powder � A prepared package containing the correct quantity of aluminothermic powder for the type of weld to be made.
b. Moulds � Preformed refractory receptacles that are placed around the rail at the gap to be welded and which receive the molten metal form the crucible.
c. Single-use Crucible � Pail-shaped refractory for containing the weld powder during ignition, reaction and pour.
d. Igniter � Match like device, used to ignite the weld powder and initiate the aluminothermic reaction.
e. Luting Sand � Refractory material used to seal the mould components around the rail.
