Technology is opening up new horizons and putting its “stamp” in the ceramic sector. The industry is experiencing a shift because of a new digital tile decoration technology, i.e. Digital Inkjet Printing. This system, pioneered in Spain, is called INKCID.
INKCID couples industrial ink jet printing equipment along with software to print tiles digitally using special pigment ink.This is achieved without contact, by injection. Special glazes to develop the colour are not necessary in this process.
Only four colors are used but any tone can be obtained by suitably mixing these colours.The printing quality of the final product is much higher than that achieved by using current techniques, with greater definition and richer colours.The colours are not influenced by environmental factors during the manufacturing process.
Products can be printed right to the very edge so a more natural look can be achieved. This is enhanced when medium to large format rectified tiles are utilized, allowing for minimal grout lines.
High and low Relief pieces can also be printed with the same quality/definition.Relief work is decorated simultaneously, thus giving designs greater continuity and more realism.
