  One of the most important subjects in HPGRgrinding is the wear of the roll surface. To date, mostapplications in the cement industry, have hard-facedsmooth rolls, frequently with a hard-facing weldedrim pattern on the surface for a better surface grip.high maintenance efforts — often requiring frequent rewelding of these roll surfaces. For this reason, HFKGhas developed and patented the studded roll surface.These rolls provide a longer wear life due to a more wear resistant surface and the embedding of an autogenous wear layer.This autogenous wear layer is formed by the ore packing itself between the studs on the rolls. This way the roll surface is coated and protected from the direct wear of the mineral rock. The autogenous surface generally prevents the larger rocks from a direct impingement on the roll surface, and provides a shield from the abrasive movement of material parallel to the roll surface. The wear thus becomes principally that of the hard metal studs, which are much more resistant.
