Cast iron welding electrodes: ENi-CI: (size: 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm, 4.0 mm, 5.0 mm) The ENi-CI is a nominally *5% Nickel electrode for cast iron. It is used for repairing cracked castings and surfacing welding, and also for joining cast iron parts with dissimilar metals. It will deposit welds that are machineable, an important consideration when the casting is to be machined after welding. Repairs made with the electrode are often single pass welds. It works best on castings with low or medium phosphorous contents. In welding, lower current is recommended. ENiFe-CI: (size: 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm, 4.0 mm, 5.0 mm) The ENiFe-CI is a nominally *5% Nickel and *5% Fe electrode for cast iron. It is used for repairing cracked castings and surfacing welding, and also for joining cast iron parts with dissimilar metals. The lower Nickel content makes this electrode more economical than ENi-CI. Weld deposits are usually machineable, but the welds can become hard and difficult to machine. It is often used for repairing castings with heavy or thick sections. As compared to ENi-CI, welds made with ENiFe-CI are stronger and more ductile, and more tolerant of phosphorous in the casting. It also has a lower coefficient of expansion than ENi-CI, resulting in fewer fusion line cracks. In welding, lower current is recommended.
