Carbomer 940 is a polyvinyl carboxyl polymer used as a viscosity enhancer, gelling agent or suspending agent. Carbomer 940 is cross-linked with the ether of pentaerythritol, and is mainly used in systems that require foaming transparency or sharp viscosity response. When added to your formulation, Carbomer 940 will produce incredible softness and slip properties comparable to ethylene glycol.

Carbomer 940 can be used to thicken surfactant systems and produce suspended products. It is excellent when you need to suspend heavy particles. Viscosity is actually not related to the product's ability to suspend objects such as jojoba oil beads or large balls. For example, a shower gel as thick as jelly will cause the beads to sink or rise, while a water-thin product containing carbomer can suspend the ball bearing. This is because Carbomer forms a network that can capture and suspend beads very effectively.
 
Carbomer 940 can also be used to make gel products very easily and is cost-effective. The viscosity of Carbomer can withstand the incorporation of different essential oils that are better than standard surfactant thickeners. When a surfactant thickener is used, fragrance and essential oils will enter the middle of the micellar structure of the formed gel and interfere with the structure, thereby significantly affecting the stability of the surfactant system. In contrast, the gel formed by Carbomer 940 will not be affected in this way.

The carbomer we generally produce is a fluffy, slightly smelly white powder, so we will dissolve it when we use it, and the effect of a neutralizer is indispensable.
 
Neutralizing ingredients (proportion):
TEA (Triethanolamine) 99%: Start with 99% pure triethanolamine, and then use distilled water to make a 50% solution. In this solution, 4 parts of TEA are usually used for every 1 part of Carbomer 940.
 
NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide): Start with sodium hydroxide and use distilled water to make a 25% solution. In this solution, 2 parts of NaOH are usually used per 1 part of Carbomer 940.
 
KOH (potassium hydroxide): Starting from potassium hydroxide, distilled water is used to make a 25% solution. In this solution, 2 parts of KOH are usually used per 1 part of Carbomer 940.
