Constituents: root: ***0 %mucilages, asparagine, betaine,lecithine, phyiosterols, sugar,starch, peclin, tannins, etc.Leaves: **9 % mucilages,traces of volatile oil, etc.

Action and uses: antitussive (not as expectorant), especially in irritating cough ( e.g. whoopingcough ) and in catarrhal inflammation of upper respiratory ways (pharyngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis,even in bronchial asthma and pulmonary tuberculosis), of urogenitai apparatus [ cystitis,urethritis, enuresis nocturne, painful urination, leucorrhoea) and of gastrointestinal tract (enteritis.diarrhea esp. in children).Topically: (poultices) varicose and thrombotic ulcers; (gargles) inflammations of the mouth.
