Vacuum belt dryeris an apparatus which is used for continuous drying and cooling of liquid and pastes. It is designed for the particularly gentle thermal treatment of product. The wet product is continuously and evenly pumped onto the conveyor belt. The belts carry the product through the drying area which is divided into several sections. If a product is dried in a vacuum, the boiling point of the evaporating water is lowered; thereby valuable and sensitive components, e.g. vitamin and minerals are retained and remain functional in the dried product. Material is heated or cooled indirectly, and all heating media, such as steam or hot water, hot oil can be used. At the end of the belt, the dried product is cut to the desired size by a guillotine type breaker bar and a crushing device under vacuum state. The product is collected in an intermediate hopper from where it is continuously discharged out of the vacuum into the automatic packaging or other subsequent process with alternating pressures.
