TBP is easier to handle compared with triphenyl phosphine, because tributylphosphine can be directly pumped under the protection of nitrogen, but triphenyl phosphine has to be dissolved in organic solvent first. More importantly, tributyl phosphine is more chemically active compared with triphenyl phosphine due to less steric effect from three butyl groups.
