Physical and Chemical Properties
Colorless or slightly yellowish transparent liquid. Soluble in
dilute hydrochloric acid, ethanol.
Used in the production of titanium
sponge and titanium dioxide, and used as a
catalyst.
It is used as catalyst for synthetic
reaction in chemical industry, and can form Ziegler's catalyst with
triethylaluminum, and complex catalyst with monochloro
diethylaluminum or sesquiethylaluminum (a mixture of monochloro
diethylaluminum and dichloro diethylaluminum), which can be used in
the polymerization of ethylene, the polymerization of propylene,
and the polymerization of rubber heterogeneous diene reaction. It
is also a raw material for the production of titanium metal and
titanium compounds, and is used in the defense industry to make
smoke bombs.
