The hopper scoops up the material from the storage below, follows the conveyor belt or chain to the top, turns downward after bypassing the top wheel, and the bucket elevator dumps the material into the receiving trough. The drive belt of the bucket elevator with belt drive is usually rubber belt, which is installed on the drive drum below or above and the redirecting drum above and below. Chain-driven bucket elevators are generally equipped with two parallel drive chains, with a pair of drive sprockets above or below and a pair of redirecting sprockets below or above. Bucket elevators are generally equipped with a housing to prevent dust from flying in the bucket elevator.
