This type of ball bearings has two raceways in the inner ring and a common spherical raceway in the outer ring. It has a self-alignment property. This type of bearings is mainly used to carry radial loads. At the same time it can also carry a certain amount of axial loads. But it can not carry pure axial loads generally. Its revolution is lower than that of deep groove ball bearings. This type of bearings is mostly used for the double supporting shafts which are apt to bend under the loads and for the parts which the two supporting stand apertures cannot ensure strict eccentricity. But the relative inclination of the centre line of the inner rings and the centre line of the outer rings cannot exceed 3 degrees. 
The self-aligning ball bearings, according to their structure, can be divided into the one with the bore of cylindrical form and the one with The bore of tapered form (the taper is 1:2), the bearings with tapered bore can be directly fixed on the tapered shaft with the help of check nuts and can be also fixed on the cylindrical shaft with and adapter sleeve.
