PBSA, a biodegradable aliphatic polyester, is known as a
crystalline polymer. It possesses superior
mechanical properties and excellent thermal stability, which
results greatly from its crystalline structure. It is well known
that the biodegradability of polymers is influenced not only by the
chemical structure, especially the presence of functional groups
and a hydrophilicity-hydrophobicity balance, but also by a highly
ordered structure, such as crystallization, orientation,and other
morphologies. It has been documented that the amorphous regions are
more susceptible to biodegradation than the crystalline
regions.
