The olive trees are cultivated in Greece since antiquity. For the ancient Greeks, the olive tree represented peace, among other things, because of the sense of tranquility that it inspired. The Greeks valued this tree so much that the winners of the ancient Olympic games were crowned with a wreath of wild olive tree.
Homer called it "liquid of gold" and according to the ancient texts, it was used in cleaning, perfumes, cosmetic care, medical and lighting. Hippocrates, the famous physician of antiquity, made use of the olive oil for the treatment of patients.
