Black silicon carbide is produced from quartz sand and petroleum coke as main raw materials and processed in a high temperature electric resistant type furnace.
Black silicon carbide has a high purity of SiC over *8%, very low impurity (Fe, C , alumina and silica ), and it has a high hardness (mohs9.2) between corundum and diamond and low toughness, which makes it an ideal material for high quality abrasive tools.
Black silicon carbide has sharp knife-edge and friable character as well as good thermal
conductivity and quick heat dissipation, and it also has better self-sharpening characteristic.
