Spring unit ensures Auto rewind of hose. D. Mechanical part of Rachet holds hose out at proper length. You are supposed to hear 4 latch "clicks" each meter as the hose is unwound. While the hose is at its proper length, stop and slowly pull as well as stretch the hose till you notice one of the 4 latch clicks. The hose is now properly placed for use on the ground without rewinding.
