Pandesal meaning "salt bread". A popular yeast-raised bread in the
Philippines. It was first introduced in the *6th century during the
Spanish era in the Philippines. Since then it has become a
Philippine household delicacy, and alternative to rice especially
during breakfast. The bread is shaped in to buns and rolled in
bread crumbs. It's soft, chewy and brown in color. You can stuff
different kinds of spread, cheese, butter, peanut butter, making a
variety of sandwiches. The taste closely resemles to a Puertorican
bread, pan de agua, and the
Mexican, bolillos.
Pandesal carries iron, which is necessary for developing
hemoglobin, for carrying oxygen in the blood. This is helpful for
people with anemia and pregnant women.
