Weiber anemometer is an instrument for measuring the speed or velocity of airflow, and is a common weather station instrument. Our anemometer moves at a speed corresponding the wind, indicating the speed of airflow.

Since a long time in the past, the anemometers had been capable of showing the wind direction for weather forecast, which facilitated the agriculturists to plan and implement the agricultural activities. Such anemometers are called vane anemometers. But still they can be seen in suburban areas and even now are used by some meteorologists in combination with barometers.

  Then came the prop anemometers, sometimes called windmill indicates both direction and velocity. Pitot-tube anemometers are used in wind tunnels and also used on aircrafts, because they require no moving parts
