Heat of combustion: The heat energy generated by the combustion of a unit mass of a substance, expressed in J/kg.
Gross heat of combustion (PCS): The heat value of the material when the combustion is over and all the water produced has condensed.
Gross heat of combustion (PCI): The heat value of the material when the combustion is over and all the water produced has turned into a vapor state.
Heat release: The heat energy released by the combustion of the specimen under the specified test conditions.
Flame spread: The vertical flame spread (Fs) refers to the highest point reached by the flame tip. The horizontal flame spread refers to the farthest end to which the sustained flame extends.
Sustained flaming: There is a minimum period of flame on the surface of the specimen.
Critical heat flux at extinguishment (CHF): The heat flux corresponding to the position on the surface of the specimen where the flame stops propagating and extinguishes (kW/m2).
